Turbo Classifier (TC)

Machinery & Equipment

The Turbo Classifier (TC) is the first in the world to realize submicron classification. Powders in a diverse range of fields demanding high quality are accurately and efficiently classified over a wide range (0.5 to 100 μm). A classification rotor is provided inside the machine and each particle is subjected to the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the rotor and the drag of the air flowing toward the center. The classification point is set according to the balance between these two forces (centrifugal force and air drag), and the particles are classified into coarse particles and fine particles. The classification point can be easily changed by changing the rotation speed of the classification rotor.

Structure

High-accuracy classification is realized by regulating the air flow in the machine

To improve classification accuracy, it is necessary to keep the air flow uniform in the classification chamber. For this equipment, the optimal shapes of parts such as the classification rotor are determined to equalize the airflow.

Simple operation with only classification rotor speed setting required

The classification point of this equipment can be adjusted by setting the rotor and the air flow rate. In particular, the classification point can be set only by changing the rotor speed when the air volume and air flow rate are constant. This allows instant and easy operation to meet a wide range of particle size specifications.

Features

  • Easy operation
  • High accuracy and efficiency
  • High dispersing performance
  • High production stability
  • Large capacity despite compact size
  • Abrasion resistance

Examples of classification

High-accuracy classification of powders with low to high density is possible. For reference, the classifications of copper powder, which is often used as a wiring material, and silica powder, which is often used as a filler for semiconductor sealing materials, are shown below. These raw material powders are highly cohesive and are said to be difficult to classify, but the high dispersing performance of the Turbo Classifier (TC) has achieved high-accuracy classification.

Copper powder

Raw material

d50=2.1μm, d100=18.5μm

Product

d50=0.3μm, d100=1.6μm

Silica powder

Classification that suppresses coarse particle contamination possible

Raw material

d50=0.6μm

Product

d50=0.3μm
